Hi, I'm Matt Gronberg. I live in Austin, Texas.
My Story
At 18, I went from dreaming of being an orthopedic surgeon to co-founding Storage Scholars.
In college, I had a long plan, undergrad, med school, residency, but the costs and risks worried me. Then, on a Halloween night, my friend Sam convinced me to join his storage company instead.
I started as a mover, stepped into sales, and later ran operations when he went abroad. A dull summer doing research made me realize I didn't want to wait years to make a difference. I already was.
By senior year, I chose this path over medicine, and when the pandemic hit, Sam and I rebuilt the business together. That effort made me his partner. I still love medicine, but entrepreneurship let me impact lives right away, no waiting required.
What I'm Building
Today I'm the Co-Founder & COO of Storage Scholars. We help colleges move and store students' things at 200+ campuses nationwide. In 2022 we appeared on Shark Tank and took a deal with Mark Cuban. We also recently launched a partnership with StarRez, the primary software students use to manage housing assignments, so Storage Scholars now appears directly in students' housing agreement process.
Most of my days involve meeting with university housing officers, refining our operational plans, and supporting our student workforce. Developing young leaders and giving them real responsibility remains one of the most rewarding parts of my role.
Personal Life
Outside of work, you can usually find me on the golf course. It's my main hobby and where I spend a lot of my free time lately. I'm originally from Boston and still have a lot of family roots there, though my parents and sister now live in Raleigh, North Carolina.
